Input operating voltage 2.9V to 32 VDC
Output voltage 5V to 38VDC
Note: the output voltage must be higher than the input voltage
Note: the output voltage is adjustable by a trim pot from the top of the package. We will adjust it to 5V before shipping unless you request a specific voltage when ordering.
Maximum output current 0.1A to 4A depending on the input and output voltages, see below.
Under voltage lockout 2.6V ± 0.1V
Temperature Range -35C to +60C
Electrostatic immunity Human body model ±2000V
Operating temperature range -20°C to +75°C (-4°F to 167°F)
Over current protected Pulse by pulse over current protected
Reverse Polarity protection Yes, by reverse biased diode across the input terminals. A fuse in the input line is required to prevent damage.
Thermal protected Automatic restart with 15°C hysteresis
Size 104x52x13mm (4x2x0.5 inches) including flange
Weight 2.4 oz, 68g

Maximum output current can be determined with the following formula
Imax = [Vin/(Vout+0.5)] * 4.2 Amps

Where Vin is the minimum expected input voltage in the application. In other words, if the power source is a battery don't use the average voltage, but the minimum voltage of the battery during normal discharge.
Here is a chart of typical values, other values are equally valid, this just gives an idea of the power levels:
Vin Vout Imax Watts
3 5 2.3A 11.5W 3V to 5V DC converter
3 12 1A 12W 3V to 12V DC converter
3 24 0.5A 12W 3V to 24V DC converter
5 8.4 2.4A 20W 5V to 8.4V DC converter
5 12 1.7A 20W 5V to 12V DC converter
5 19 1.1A 21W 5V to 19V DC converter
5 24 0.83A 20W 5V to 24V DC converter
6 12 2A 24W 6V to 12V DC converter
6 19 1.3A 24W 6V to 19V DC converter

24 28 3.5A 98W* 24V to 28V DC converter
24 36 2.8A 100W* 24V to 36V DC converter
36 38 3.9A 148W* 36V to 38V DC converter
*Wattages over 25W cannot be sustained continuously due to inadequate heat dissipation in the standard package, but can be used for short periods of time.

Application notes from customers:

My Garmin had a tendency to reboot when the motorcycle was started. I Installed the DCBP today on my motorcycle with a 1.5 amp fuse. Works well with first try of 20V output - Garmin does not blank out in cold temps or with lots of cranking. The unit is compact and light, fits well inside headlight housing. Turns on and off with ignition switch, so no issues with battery drain. Appears to be just what I needed. Thanks. Randy B.
